Beautiful tour with many views

We start the hike in the Innsbruck area and then hike for 6 days through the Inn Valley and the Tux Alps. We walk on varied paths, one moment we find a forest path just above the tree line and the next moment we walk on a hiking trail with stone, gravel and boulders. We meander through the mountains at an altitude between 1,800 and 2,800 meters: quite high! Fun fact; we walk through an area with the oldest pine population in Europe!

This tour is suitable for hikers with experience, from 18 years old. We hike an average of 6 hours per day on red classified mountain hiking trails with sometimes challenging sections.

  • Tailor-made trip
  • Easy to shorten as desired
  • 6-day hut-to-hut tour

For many, the Inntaler Höhenweg is known as a "wonderful tour". That is to say, every hut where we spend the night does its best to serve excellent local food. And let's face it; What's better than a delicious meal after an intense day of hiking through the mountains?!

Hut life is an experience in itself!!

Many different mountaineers come together in the huts after a long day of exercise. It is a pleasant get-together, exchanging experiences and above all recovering from the day. Games are played and people enjoy a nutritious meal together. Eating often takes place between 19:00 and 20:00.

In the mountain huts there are a number of rules and customs, in order to structure the 'coexistence' with the other attendees. The caretaker of the hut will assign you a place to sleep. We often sleep in 'a Lager', a dormitory with a row of narrow mattresses or bunk beds next to each other. The limited spaces are designed to accommodate as many people as possible. Blankets and pillows are always provided. To keep the sleeping quarters neat and livable, everyone folds their own blankets neatly in the morning. Because the blankets are not washed after every user, a sleeping bag is often mandatory.

Most cabins are equipped with solar panels or a generator for electricity. People are economical with energy, which is why the lights are turned on late and out again at 22:00 at the latest. From that moment on, it's 'Hüttenruhe'. There is no light at night, so it is useful if you have a headlight or flashlight at hand. The cabins are simple, as are the sanitary facilities. Nowadays it is possible to shower in more and more cabins, for which you can buy a shower token on site.

Day 1

Start: Patscherkofelbahn
Final destination: Glungezerhütte 2,610 m
Walking time: 3.5 hours

We start this tour at the base station of the Patscherkofelbahn. The first part of the stage takes us over a part of the Zirbenweg. On the Zirbenweg we walk on a wide sandy path just above the tree line. Along the way we pass several benches, where we can sit down to enjoy the beautiful view over the Inn Valley and the Karwendel Mountains behind it. Just before reaching the Glunzegerhütte we make a steep climb, when we arrive at the top we find an exceptionally beautiful view.

Day 2

Start: Glungezerhütte 2,610 m
Final destination: Lizumer Hütte 2,019 m
Walking time: 8 hours

After a quiet start of this tour on day 1, today we walk the longest stage of this tour in one day. We hike underneath the flanks of the seven Tuxer summits to the Lizumer Hütte. On the way, we pass a waterfall and cross a military training area. The trails are quite rough and narrow.

Day 3

Start: Lizumer Hütte 2,019 m
Final destination: Weidener Hütte 1,799 m
Walking time: 6 hours

Shortly after leaving the Lizumer Hütte, we pass the Soldiers Church: one of the highest churches. Well worth checking out! We continue the route to the Weidener Hütte on varied paths. From wide roads over alpine meadows, to narrower paths along mountain flanks. During this stage, we slowly ascend to the highest point of this hike at 2,463 meters, and then descend back to the Weidener Hütte.

Day 4

Start: Weidener Hütte 1,799 m
Final destination: Rastkogelhütte 2,117 m
Walking time: 6.5 hours

Start the day with a hearty breakfast, because today we climb more than 1,000 altimeters! We hike over green alpine meadows, narrow paths and ridges. Today's highlight is reaching the top 'the Rastkogel', where we enjoy a break. On a clear day, there is a wide view over several mountain ranges and side valleys; Very impressive! After the break, we descend over the ridge and pass several mountain lakes. On the way down, we can already see the Rastkogelhütte.

Day 5

Start: Rastkogelhütte 2.117
Final destination: Kellerjochhütte 2,237 m
Walking time: 6 hours

A beautiful mountain path leads us to the Kellerjochhütte. On a clear day we have a good view over the Zillertal. If you have energy to spare, it is definitely worth walking to the Kellerjoch: a sweet and nice chapel to see.

Day 6
