During this 3-day hut tour, you will experience the real hut life. With our own luggage we walk between imposing and rugged mountains. Nice forest paths, alpine meadows, rock blocks, stone and gravel alternate. You will get to the most impressive places with unique views!

We meander through the western part of the Zillertal Alps. The walks are mostly above the tree line and have a rugged character. We spend the night in 2 completely different mountain huts. On the one hand, the Friesenberghaus (2,498 m), an old and characteristic mountain hut. On the other hand, the Olpererhütte (2,388 m), a recently built mountain hut with a fresh and modern look.

This tour is suitable for hikers with some experience, from 18 years old. You will hike an average of 5 hours per day on red-classified mountain hiking trails with sometimes challenging sections. With a good basic condition and some hiking experience, this tour is easy to do.

Hut life is an experience in itself!!

Many different mountaineers come together in the huts after a long day of exercise. It is a pleasant get-together, exchanging experiences and above all recovering from the day. Games are played and people enjoy a nutritious meal together. Eating often takes place between 19:00 and 20:00.

In the mountain huts there are a number of rules and customs, in order to structure the 'coexistence' with the other attendees. The caretaker of the hut will assign you a place to sleep. We often sleep in 'a Lager', a dormitory with a row of narrow mattresses or bunk beds next to each other. The limited spaces are designed to accommodate as many people as possible. Blankets and pillows are always provided. To keep the sleeping quarters neat and livable, everyone folds their own blankets neatly in the morning. Because the blankets are not washed after every user, a sleeping bag is often mandatory.

Most cabins are equipped with solar panels or a generator for electricity. People are economical with energy, which is why the lights are turned on late and out again at 22:00 at the latest. From that moment on, it's 'Hüttenruhe'. There is no light at night, so it is useful if you have a headlight or flashlight at hand. The cabins are simple, as are the sanitary facilities. Nowadays it is possible to shower in more and more cabins, for which you can buy a shower token on site.

Day 1

Start: Alpengashaus Breitlahner car park 1,257 m
Final destination: Friesenberghaus 2.498 m
Walking time: 5 hours

We start at Alpengasthaus Breitlahner. Here you will meet the guide who will accompany you for the next 3 days. After a short meeting and checking the backpacks, we start the first part of the walking stage at a leisurely walking pace.

First we walk through a wooded area, where the paths are wide. The higher we go, the more the environment will change. The forest paths turn into narrower paths with stone and gravel. Shortly before reaching Friesenberghaus, you will be treated to a spectacular view over the Schlegeis reservoir. Arriving in Friesenberghaus, you will be introduced to hut life. There is plenty of room to reminisce about this first day.

Day 2

Start: Friesenberghaus 2.498 m
Final destination: Olpererhütte 2,389 m
Walking time: 5 hours

After (hopefully) a good night's sleep and a hearty breakfast, we get ready for a new day of hiking. A day full of new experiences and experiences! We descend a short distance from Friesenberghaus to a clear and cold Friesenbergsee. Before we continue hiking to the Olpererhütte, the guide has a nice surprise in store!

After the surprise, we walk along Friesenbergsee to the Olpererhütte. Along the way you will brave a zigzag climb, we walk over boulders and slabs and we pass the most famous suspension bridge in the Zillertal. Arriving at the Olpererhütte, we enjoy a beautiful view. On a clear day, you can see a part of South Tyrol (Italy)!

Day 3

Start: Olpererhütte 2,389 m
Final destination: Alpengasthaus Breitlahner car park 1,257 m
Walking time: 7.5 hours

On a clear day, we can enjoy a panoramic view during breakfast. For many, this is a highlight during the hut-to-hut tour!

We descend over boulders, in the direction of Unterschrammachkar. This is a unique place, just below the striking mountain 'De Olperer'. After a short break, we continue to descend on a varied path to Schlegeis reservoir, which we always have a good view of. From the reservoir, we continue to the starting point of our tour: Alpengasthaus Breitlahner
